Vivien Blackshaw Art

Abstract & Impressionistic New Zealand Artist

Born in New Zealand, I have been painting much of my life. After college I gained entry to the fine arts school at Elam but decided to study my other love, horticulture instead. Landscaping became another creative outlet for me.

My scenes are usually local sea and landscapes and tend to be semi-impressionistic in style. I paint in acrylics, but frequently with a watercolour technique in order to get a wider range of effects than is normally seen in that medium.

Lately I am drawn to a more abstract style. Its more challenging but much more exciting and keeps me more engaged with my work.

The beginnings of paintings are the most exciting I find.

Then many layers to come after that!
